Even after all this time spent with them, Neal half expects to get shooed home before the real festivities begin. But when Elizabeth disappears, Peter doesn't remove his feet (shoes long gone, but fish-bedecked socks still on) from Neal's lap; and when she returns with a bottle of champagne and some glasses, she's carrying three, not two.

"Sit up, you," she tells Peter, nudging him as she pours the bubbly. One glass to him, with a fond smile. One to Neal, and the smile hasn't gone away. One for herself.

"Happy new year," Peter says, and they raise their glasses in a toast.

"To family," El says.

"To being the good guys," Peter says with an impish grin.

Neal's turn now, and for all that he's made his living with smooth words (and smoother actions), nothing comes out. What they have, the three of them, can't be described in words. So he sips from his glass, and leans over to kiss El with his mouth still full, and tries to repeat the process with Peter; and if El nearly drops her own glass because she's giggling too hard at the expression on Peter's face, well, no matter. Message received.

Clever using the glasses as a concrete symbol for Neal that Peter and El wouldn't think anything of. And that moment at the end is adorable.
